Jan 23 (LBO) – Sri Lankan mobile operator Dialog said Tuesday it had rolled out broadband wireless services for a few pilot customers, with plans to extend it to other parts of the island over the next few months. The mobile operator also provides retail and wholesale international voice and data services, Internet services and also operates Dialog SAT, a mobile satellite service.

The WiMAX (World Interoperability for Microwave Access) services will be offered to customers in Hambantota, Matara, Galle, Kurunagala, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa.

Amadeus Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, World Vision, and Hotels Corporation are among those that have tied up with Dialog for the pilot launch of WiMAX, Dialog said in a statement.

œWiMAX provides Broadband Internet access across the footprint of the wireless network, enabling anywhere-anytime access to high speed broadband, Vajira Jayasinghe, Chief Technology Officer of Dialog Broadband Networks said.

The rollout is still at a pilot stage, Jayasinghe said, with extensive expansion of services due to take place later in the year.
