Dec 24, 2019 (LBO) – Professor W D Lakshman has been appointed as the new Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
An official at the Central Bank told LBO that he assumed duties as the Governor of Central Bank today morning.

He completed his doctorate at the University of Oxford. In 1982, he was appointed Professor of Economics at the Colombo University.
After his retirement, Professor Lakshman was appointed an advisor to the Ministry of Finance in 2008 and as the chairman of the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) in 2010.
In 2009, he was appointed the chairman of the Presidential Commission on Taxation in Sri Lanka.

Deshamanya Professor W. D. Lakshman has been appointed as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
He received his letter of appointment at the Presidential Secretariat today (24).
Served as the vice chancellor of University of Colombo from 1994 to 1999, Prof. Lakshman is a renowned Sri Lankan economist.
In recognition of his contribution to the field of education, he was honoured with Deshamanya title in 2005.
Prof. Lakshman is the 15th Governor of the Central Bank.
