Tourism: Sri Lanka’s arrivals up 8.8-pct in Oct

Nov 04, 2015 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's tourist arrivals rose 8.8 percent to 132,280 in October 2015 from an year earlier with continued growth in the Indian and Chinese markets.

Arrivals in the first 10 months of the year were up 17.

9 percent to 1.448 million, data from the state tourism authority showed.



Indian tourists were up 16.9 percent to 30,574 in October 2015 while total Indian visitors for the first 10 months were up 27 percent to 251,481 maintaining its top slot,  after China.

Visitors from China were up 44.4 percent to 182,110. However several East Asia markets showed declines while Visitors from South Asia were up 14 percent to 40,714 .



Arrival from Japan -3.6 percent and  Singapore -7.8 percent. Western Europe arrivals were also up 14 percent to 36,749 with arrival from the United Kingdom  up 1.





4 percent to 9,970 and German arrivals up 21.



5 percent to 9,681 from an year earlier.

Middle Eastern visitors dipped 39 percent to 5,366 with Saudi Arabian visitors down  36 percent to 1,694, followed by the United Arab Emirates down 42 percent.
