"The Act has been certified so we will put a paper notice within a week or two asking for people to come forward for the amnesty under the new law," said R M Jothipala, Commissioner-PAYE, Department of Inland Revenue.

The taxmen say the new offer is open until December 31, 2004, once the announcement is made.

"They must send a copy of the old declaration or a copy of the acknowledgement of the old declaration.

Or else, they can send a letter indicating the previous declaration number," said Jothipala.

This is to track down the previous declaration from among the Inland Revenue files to check it against the provisions of the current amnesty law.
