Of the total 22,422 containers handled at Colombo port Tuesday, 9, 875 or 44 percent had been done at Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) terminals with the rest at the two private terminals.
The Ministry of Ports and Shipping said in their statement the recorded volume handled was from 22 vessels on a single day.
Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga said plans were underway to introduce overall development in Colombo Port.
“We hope to introduce a strategic business plan for all terminals to carry out their business operations towards the overall development of Colombo Port.”
“The plan would be developed keeping the uniqueness of the (Jaya Container Terminal) JCT terminal operated by the SLPA.”
The Ministry said in January 2016, SLPA volume increased by 3.6 percent to 197, 228 TEUs.
