Sri Lankan Airlines in new freight handling and tracking system

July 14, 2009 (LBO) - Sri Lankan Airlines has upgraded to SkyChain, cargo handling and tracking system from Dubai-based Mercator, the airline said.



"SkyChain is a web-based system that allows our customers the facility to monitor the progress of their consignments around the world from wherever there is internet accessibility," Sri Lanka's head of worldwide sales Mohanmed Fazeel said.

"It also provides on-line booking services for registered customers of SriLankan Cargo.

This will lead to faster processing times at our cargo acceptance and delivery counters."

SkyChain replaced the SITA FASTIV system which has been used by SriLankan since 2001 on June 23.

Customers can use SkyChain to check schedules and space availability, make bookings on-line, submit and print airway bills, communicate with key people, update status and track each consignment through every stage of its journey.

Sri Lankan's manager of cargo operations, Janaka Munasinghe, says SkyChain has proved to be a a user-friendly system which had significantly simplified our cargo operations, and achieved greater customer convenience.
