Oct 22, 2019 (LBO) - The Department of Meteorology has issued a red advisory for heavy rain, strong wind and rough seas, today.
The department says this is due to the active cloudiness in the northern, southern and southeastern sea areas to the island.
"There is possibility for heavyshowers or thundershowers and sudden roughness,associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the above given sea areas is high," they said.
Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilantin this regard.

FORECAST : The active clouds are likely to persist within next 06 hours further.
The Department of Meteorology advises that people should:
Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies during thunderstorms.
Avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances during thunderstorms.
Avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats etc.
Beware of fallen trees and power lines.
