Sri Lanka Navy to complete pedestrian walkway near Supreme Court

June 01, 2017 (LBO) – The Urban Development Authority has proposed that Sri Lanka Navy should complete stage III of the pedestrian walkway along the St.





Sebastian canal area from the Technical Junction towards the Supreme Courts Complex.

The width of the proposed walkway is 06 meters (20 feet) and the length is 1,485 meters (4,900 feet).

Stage I of the project is completed and extends from D.R. Wijewardana Mawatha to Olcott Mawatha and stage II is in progress with 90 percent of the work completed linking Olcott Mawatha to Sea Street.



The construction of stage I and II was undertaken by the Sri Lanka Navy and funded by the Treasury with the project receiving approval from the Department of National Planning.



It is proposed to assign the construction work of stage III to the Sri Lanka Navy, since it is a continuation of the project that it has presently undertaken.

The cost of this construction is 50 million rupees and will be funded by the Treasury from its allocation to the Megapolis Ministry this year.

Research shows that crowding and congestion can be avoided by providing a well connected pedestrian web in the core areas of Colombo linking all main attraction.
