Sri Lanka Cricket blames International Cricket Council for delaying payments

Apr 21, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka Cricket on Monday hit back at International Cricket Council for breaching a bilateral agreement with the suspension of a payment by the council.



In a letter addressed to the chief executive of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has urged ICC to release due monies without delay. “SLC regrets to state that, the purported sudden decision to ‘withhold’ these monies which are legitimately due to SLC for past events is in breach of the agreements between SLC and ICC,” the letter said.



The letter released to the local media also stated that the ICC is yet to release monies for the world cups of 2015 and 2014 T20.

“SLC is shocked by the purported decision...” the letter further said. The ICC board held its second quarterly meeting of 2015 at the ICC Headquarters in Dubai on 16 April 2015.

At the meeting the board has considered the implications of the appointment of an interim committee of SLC by the Sri Lankan government and has decided to delay due monies. “The appointment of an interim committee may be a breach of the ICC’s constitution which requires free and fair elections for office-bearers within member boards.

” the ICC said. The board has finally agreed to have a full and proper explanation from Sports Minister who appointed the interim committee.
