Sri Lanka courts Thai investors

Apr 03, 2014 (LBO) - Sri Lanka is seeking more investors from Thailand, the state investment promotion office said following an investor meeting in Bangkok where there was interest in cosmetics, fisheries, agri business and retailing.

The firms make, lace, synthetic sapphires and two hotels and a harvest management company is also expected to start operations, the BOI said.

Sri Lanka Board of Investment said its Chairman Lakshman Jayaweera and Assistant Director Manoj Caseer met Thai businessmen and investors in Bangkok.

Thai businessmen led by Arin Jira, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries had expressed interest in investing in cosmetic manufacturing, fisheries, agricultural business and departments stores, the BOI said.

This event was organized by Nopporn Adchariyavanich, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka and Shantha Kottegoda, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand.

A business delegation from Thailand is expected later in the year.

At present Thai enterprises had invested 30 million US dollars in Sri Lanka employing over 1000 workers.
