Sri Lanka approves building expressway from Kurunegala to Dambulla

Sept 08, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s cabinet has approved the construction of the central expressway from Kurunegala to Dambulla with funds from Exim Bank of China. This 60 kilometer long section of the central expressway has been identified as a project to be carried out under the ‘Awakening Rajarata’ Development Programme. A cabinet decision said the Chinese Embassy has recommended China Gezhouba Group International Engineering Company, a Chinese state owned company for the construction of civil works. According to the feasibility study carried out by Highways Ministry, the project has been identified as a highly feasible and needs to be implemented urgently.

The cabinet nod has also been obtained to complete the necessary evaluation and negotiation by the cabinet appointed technical evaluation committee. As per the MOU signed between International Trade Ministry of Sri Lanka and Commerce Ministry of China, the Chinese Exim Bank will provide funds for the construction of this section of the central expressway.
