Sri Lanka and Qatar to sign MoU’s on Energy, diplomatic training and Water Management
Oct 23, 2017 (LBO) - The Government will ink agreements in the fields of energy, water supply and waste management and diplomatic training and research with the State of Qatar during the state visit of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.
The cabinet approved a joint proposal made by Petroleum Resources Development Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, and Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, to sign the agreement during the state visit.
Sri Lanka and Qatar have also agreed to enter into an Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation in the fields of water supply and waste water management.
The proposal made by City Planning and Water Supply Minister Rauff Hakeem for obtaining assistance of Qatar in projects to be implemented in Puttalam and Ampara Districts.
Also during the visit an agreement between the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka and Foreign Ministry of Qatar will be signed on cooperation in diplomatic training and research field.
This proposal was made by Foreign Affairs Minister Thilak Marapana and approved by the cabinet last week in order to strengthen diplomatic relations started in 1976.
