Speaker reminds President that prorogation should be done in consultation with him

Oct 28, 2018 (LBO) – Speaker of Sri Lanka’s Parliament Karu Jayasuriya today said that it is his duty as the Speaker to draw the attention of the President to the convention that a prorogation should be done in consultation with the Speaker.

Sending a letter to the President, Jayasuriya said continuing the prorogation until 16 November will have serious and undesirable consequences for the country and requested the President to reconsider the same.

Sri Lanka’s Parliament has been suspended until 16 November 2018 by the President, Presidential Secretariat said yesterday.
