Jan 21, 2020 (LBO) – Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Karu Jayasuriya has decided that it is appropriate to table the forensic audit report on the issue of Treasury Bonds issued by the Central Bank.
Making a statement, the Speaker said that it will also address the fundamental right of access to information in terms of Article 14A of the Constitution.
"It is likely that it will take a considerable time for the COPE to take action on this report.
I also believe that it is better to present this report to all Members of Parliament rather than to the Members of the Committee on Public Enterprises," he told Parliament.
"When arriving at this decision, I considered that the Parliament has full power over the control of public finances and in particular the powers of the Committee on Public Enterprises,"
"It is my belief that this decision will not in any way interfere with or affect the judicial proceedings in respect of the Treasury Bonds, which have already been commenced and which are to be instituted in due course."
