Notice of proposed electricity price increases will be out for public comment next week, says the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). "We sent the gazette notice to print.
So it should be out early next week," said CEB Chairman, Ananda Gunasekera on Friday.
"The notice will announce the revision in fixed charges and will give one months time for people to object. After considering the objections we will decide on the increase," said Gunasekera.
The latest proposal to increase the fixed rates of electricity is expected to increase the CEB’s income by around Rs 4 bn a year.
The fixed charge is added on to the unit charge on electricity bills.
The proposed fixed charge revision will increase fixed charges on bulk consumption from Rs 800 to Rs 3,000.
It is also introducing a consumption-based fixed charge even for domestic consumers.
This will see the domestic fixed charge of Rs 30 per month go from between Rs 60 to Rs 240.
