Oct 30, 2013 (LBO) - Smartphone sales are taking off showing fast growth, Singer Sri Lanka, a top consumer durables retailer which launched a slim phone targeting domestic and tourist markets said. Smartphones have an operating system which can run many applications, similar to a small computer, while remaining connected to the internet compared to so-called older feature phones which are now in wide use.

Singer has become a distributor for Huawei, a Chinese telecom equipment maker.

"It's quite obvious that globally consumers are getting tech savvy everyday and Sri Lanka is no exception," Mahesh Wijewardane, commercial and marketing director of Singer Sri Lanka said.

"They are even smarter irrespective of whether they come from urban or rural, when it’s come to mobile phones.

"Also mobile phone is the most penetrated gadget in the household which keep flowing with the advancement of technology and inspire people to have novel products.

"That’s where we figured as the distributor of Huawei mobile phones distributor in Sri Lanka we should take the lead," Wijewardane said.
