Feb 19, 2020 (LBO) – Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka has commenced a series of meetings with capital market stakeholders to discuss issues in general and to obtain views with regard to the prevalent regulatory framework and the development of the capital market of the country.
The newly appointed Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission Viraj Dayaratne along with the other members of the commission expects that such meetings will improve cooperation between the regulator and the stakeholders and provide them an opportunity to work together towards the common goal of capital market development.
The first in the series was with Ray Abeywardena, Chairman, Rajeeva Bandaranaike Chief Executive Officer, Renuke Wijayawardhane, Chief Regulatory Officer and other senior managers of the Colombo Stock Exchange on 19th February 2020.
The next is scheduled for 25th February 2020 with the Chief Executive Officers of stockbroker firms.
The Commission was represented by the Chairman, Manil Jayesinghe, Naresh Abeysekera, and Sunil Lankathilake.
It is also envisaged that such meetings will improve cooperation between the regulator and the stakeholders and provide them an opportunity to work together towards the common goal of capital market development.
In the coming weeks, meetings have been scheduled with other stakeholders namely Listed Companies, Unit Trust Management Companies, Investment Managers, Margin Providers, Credit Rating Agencies etc.
