Ravi Karunanayake wants more under his purview: reports

May 24, 2017 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake wants to bring the Securities and Exchange Commission under his purview along with several other institutions, media reports said.

The Daily Mirror reported that the move to place SEC under him comes in the wake of a controversial liquor company making plans to go public on the CSE. Institutions such as the Development Lotteries Board, National Lotteries Board, Mahapola Scholarship Fund and SriLankan Airlines have also been claimed by Minister Ravi Karunanayake, the Sunday Times reported. The SEC currently falls under the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs headed by the Prime Minister. Plantation sector institutions which presently come under a different ministry may also be allocated to him, reports said.
