what are his achievements to say that he is a “go-getter”
I don’t know why MS can’t imtervene when such a disgrace like this happens.
Oh yeah, because he appointed his joker bro as SLT chair.
Ranil, shame on you for appointing this idiot as finance minister.
He has no political clout other than what he buys with ill gotten gain.
You have Harsha and Eran who are no brainers for this position. Harsha is also much more politically relevant than Ravi.
The whole working committee should be to blame for this.
Could be something to do with the Central Bank Bond issue. All the people involved in this Bond scandal (Ravi as Minister of Finance, CB Govenor Arjun from Singapore, BOC new boss from the UNP, the panel of 3 lawyers to investigate the bond issue also from the UNP) have been appointed by Ranil and therefore, Ravi instead of Harsha or Eran, would have been included for a good reason.
Is that a justification?
Go getter? I’m worried about what he will go and get! Appointing a brother-in-law who has no prior insurance industry experience is a no-no. This should be an ill-gotten gains investigation by the next administration.
And, there seems to be a relationship to the new COO at Hyatt as well?
Yes. he is a JP.
First question?
Isn’t it the BOD who appoints an MD for SLIC?
Over to you Hemaka, you and the rest of the BOD should be answerable to this.
Harsha to Finance, Ravi to Ministry of Prisons so he can get used to his future home.
you are a disgrace minister
you should never have appointed a police sargent for this job.
you are a fraud . you are an insult to the president. He is an honest man and the only
honest man.
resign and let the correct and educated people run the place.
your UNP is fast loosing your reputation man.
I can’t understand why Ranil tries to commit Harakiri by appointing this guy with a questionable reputation as the Finance Minister. In 2002 one of the main accusations against the UNP was corruption by this joker.
Dont say a word. Horu wenuwen horu heluwen. That is Yahapalanayak and rahapalanaya. Ratata abasaranai.
this man is insulting to entire professional people in the country. you minister mentioned that inefficient professional that means ,including you too in to that pool. you think retired police man is much better than all professional people do so much of hard works to this nation. what kind of dirty shed you are???. do you directly have hand with dirty bon Issued game and do not forget that you had had in criminal case due to your political power cases was dismissed by higher court not any other reason. this matter to proof that still our legal system is politically motivated and corrupted. how many fraud cases di you proof from that $18b cheated money???.you talk lot of rubbished.
President appointed his own brother to SLT and associated companies. Ravi followed suit, since he didn’t have a brother, appointed his ex -cop BIL. The question is whether SLIC runs efficiently or not but whether the most suitable persona appointed to person has been appointed e position of MD>? I would like to know the response of Hemaka
I’m hoping MS manages to field a set of candidates without “MR clan” and I’ll vote for the SLFP for the first time in my life. There’s no point believing that RW is honest if he approves of this chap.
Without MR country’s progress will be permanently derailed, and you might even lose the peaceful conditions MR achieved and you are now enjoying. No one wants you to believe that Ranil or Sirisena are honest or competent. Just study the first 100 days of their actions and appointments.
I did not defend RW, or the present government. I am saying they are the better option against the MR clan. But on account of their behavior in the 100 days I will vote for SLFP if MS manages to keep MR out.
I assume you are implying the LTTE when you refer to the peaceful conditions.
I do not consider the conditions the country was living in under the Rajapaksa Family rule as peaceful. If you were a member of The Rajapaksa family or were one of his suck ups you had absolute freedom to do whatever you wanted. Be it simple things like freedom to be the captain of the rugby team if you were the best choice (I know of other sports in which similar things happened). Or be it that random connected people put flashing lights inside their black jeeps and expected you to move aside even on expressways. (long story) Or be it you were a teacher who could be asked to kneel down or a environment officer who could be tied to a tree. Or a journalist who gets killed for refusing to accept a plum position to shut up. (The list of people who were corrupted by plum positions is long) I could go on but I guess you get the drift. Until the day it happens to you many just assume it will never effect them. I do not wish to live in a country where I live in fear of the leaders who we elected. To succeed under the previous govt required that you had connections. There was no way an honest man could succeed. If you were in the army and supported the regime you got a good life even your kids got school admissions, university education (Kotalawella defense academy) when all others had to get grades to get admission. Basically the country was headed to become like Burma. And whether you agreed or not world sanctions were coming. Which would have taken us to being a North korea.
Get real. We need a change of government. If the next government is corrupt we change it again. It is the fear of getting voted out that causes a change in behaviour of politicians. Something like it is the fear of losing your license not the fear of killing somebody that makes people not drink and drive.
At RW – Put the FCID to inquire on Ravi. They’ll be able to convict him in a week. You’ll win the elections by a landslide.
This Finance minister well connected to Rajan Rajarathnam who is still jailed in USA. Both are LTTE supporters also
Suckers for you lot voted for sira malli. Getting big ones up in the rear are we?
Hyatte Colombo MD too is RK’s relations. He has JP as his qualifications. Sargents and JPs are go getters than Professionals?????? And recently there was a big fight with CEO coz Bansa wants CEO’s office room for him. Is that Bansa (go getter) went and got about 8B for the last 4 months??? Hilarious.
Fight over office room? Are you kidding? Where is the BOD in all this?
Why can’t Hemaka who actually is a man of more significant stature than Ravi have some backbone? What is the point of having Boards of Directors if they are just lackeys to low life ministers.
Hemaka, you have nothing to lose, you have lived your life and had your career. Now is you time to do something for the good of the country.
More the Govt. delays the election , more the govt. will get exposed and nepotism and corruption in the current govt.will equalize or supersede deeds done by the former regime
in this special field. This proves that tho’ some people talk of good governance, in reality,
this cannot happen in Sri Lanka.
This kind of appointment goes against the principle of good governance. Not only justice should be done,It should SEEN to be done. Appointing your own kith & kin of politicians to semi state institutions should be banned. When will these people learn?
Remind me again what was one of the reasons MR was sccused of. Something to do with family having the cake alone. Guess ravi was tempted to follow suite. De ja vu i guess. Ingrediants of yshapalanaya. Go grtter my foot!
Hello Mr.Minister,
In case you do not know or you have been misled by your brother-in-law, you should open your eyes and understand that, the hilarious 35% growth for which you’ll claim credit is not the magical work of your brother-in-law. As accountant if you think one can push a 35% growth over an existing business base of Rs 20 BILLION which actually translates to Rs 7 BILLION in 3 MONTHS you should gracefully donate your finance Ministry portfolio to BANSA and go home. This is the greatest contribution you can offer
to the UNP and to the whole country. He will do a much better job for the country than you. Thanks to the professionals in the company who have put the company on the right track from 4th Quarter 2014 and continued the momentum this year before your Brother-in-law appointed as MD. Anyway you and your Brother-in-law must happy that there are solid people in the company who carry the load and set correct directions and enable the two of you to parade in a glorified perehara.
MR Minister Food for thought
If this is how honourable minister act in 100 days, guess what will happen when he has full 4 years as a minister. This outrageous behaviour should stop, nepotism and cronyism supposed and should have Been ended 100 days ago.
So the rest of the professionals SLIC has not contributed to the 35% increase in business??Bloody nonsense !! This is proof of the disconnection between the mouth and the brain!
as a governing system that kept criticizing and finding fault with the previous regime where almost everyone in senior administration was related somehow to one another and the disasters that ensued, the current system should think several times about appointing someone related to them. Regardless of how experienced or so the person is, appointing a relative to a high post such as this will rarely be accepted well by the society given the circumstance. I personally feel, no disrespect to Mr. T.M.R Bangsa Jayah, nor do i doubt his prowess in management, that this appointment should not have taken place, purely due to the circumstance.
Whats the newst situation of this ? any updates ?
