October 20, 2018 (LBO) - Hemasiri Fernando, Chairman of Peoples Bank, has said that he and the rest of the board of directors of People's Bank are ready to offer their resignations as per the Presidents request.
In a call broadcast on Newsfirst, Fernando stated that the President has requested the respective line ministers to dissolve the boards of the Board of Investment (BOI), the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) and People's Bank. Fernando said he is still waiting for the line minister to execute the Presidents request, upon which he and the rest of the board are prepared to offer their resignations.
There has still been no word if the same courtesy will be offered to the President from the board members of the BOI or the BOC. The BOI is chaired be former Etislat CEO Dumindra Ratnayake, while the BOC is chaired by President's Counsel Ronald Perera.
In addition to being People's Bank Chairman, Hemasiri Fernando has recently been appointed as Secretary to the President.
