Oct 02, 2020 (LBO) – The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) says that the special committee appointed to study the twentieth amendment to the constitution is of the view that any provisions that weaken the Rule of Law or the Administration of Justice should be opposed.
"The BASL is of the view that no person should be above the law," the special committee of the Bar Association said in its report.
"No person is above the law and to grant absolute immunity from suit is contrary to all known principles of the rule of law.
"
However, the Bar Association added that there were some dissenting views on specific provisions as well.
The report, subject to certain amendments, has been adopted unanimously by the Bar Council of the BASL at a special meeting held on 26 September 2020.
