Adding diversity to the work place is something management trainers promote for creative problem solving. An NGO and the Employers Federation of Ceylon are now working to introduce companies to differently-abled people who they say can help create a vibrant work place.
A year ago some of the largest companies in the country went to a job fair with a difference. They had the opportunity to interview dozens of differently-abled job seekers.
The job fair, organized by an NGO with donor assistance, was a life changing experience for people like Dinesha Perera.
Dinesha got a chance to meet and be interviewed by some of the largest companies within a few hours. Some interviewers were impressed with her.
The MAS Group offered her a job as an office assistant at the fair last year.
Dinesha, who has a hearing impairment and no work experience, at first doubted her ability to perform at the MAS Group, one of the largest apparel exporters in the country.
