Aug 11, 2019 (LBO) – Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa today officially named former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the presidential candidate of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
Leadership of the party ceremoniously handed over to Mahinda Rajapaksa during the inaugural convention held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
Speaking at the National Convention, ex-President Rajapaksa said that they have no plan to spread hate among their political opponents.
He said that the next presidential candidate should be a disciplined person with a track record of delivering promises.
Addressing the convention, Gotabaya Rajapaksa said his first duty as the President will be to make the country a safer place to live.
He also expressed views on the subjects of education, economic and public sector reforms, health and social issues among others.
