The Education Ministry hopes to call for a larger budget allocation for IT related education in the national curriculum. The IT project is now largely funded though an ADB grant for developing secondary education in Sri Lanka.
Dilantha Withanage, IT consultant with the Ministry of Education says funding proposal is being drafted to draw funds from the next national budget.
A ministry statement on Wednesday said sa extensive plan for ICT development is being developed for implementation from 2005 to 2010.
Under the programme IT education will begin from grade one, with regular black board teaching supplemented with computer aided educational material.
The Ministry is currently evaluation over 300 private sector proposal to deliver or develop computer based learning aids.
Withanage says the government will consider taking on the computer based educational modules on a commercial basis, encouraging more firms to develop content relevant to the local market.
