Oct 15, 2019 (LBO) – Former Defence Secretary, Hemasiri Fernando has retired from the office of People’s Leasing & Finance with effect from 12 October 2019.
People’s Leasing & Finance said in a stock exchange filing that the Non-Executive Non-Independent Chairman and Director, Hemasiri Fernando had no relevant interest in the shares of the company as of the retirement date.
Fernando resigned from the Chairmanship of People’s Merchant Finance on 27 June 2019.
He was the Defence Secretary of Sri Lanka until 25 April 2019, when he resigned taking responsibility due to the series of blasts that rocked the island nation on the previous two days.
Colombo High Court last week, overturned Colombo Chief Magistrate’s order that granted bail to Fernando and the suspended IGP Pujith Jayasundara who were arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
High Court ruled that the Attorney General’s decision to produce the suspects as those facing charges under Section 296 of the Penal Code was correct and justified.
