The appointment as member of the Securities and Exchange Commission was made by President Mahinda Rajapakse, the SEC said in a statement.
Abeysuriya is currently managing director of Amba Research, a specialized provider of investment research and analyst report services.
His expertise as a leading capital market specialist would further strengthen the SEC’s role of promoting and maintaining a fair, efficient and transparent securities market. Director General of the SEC, Channa De Silva said.
Abeysuria has previously served on a prime ministerial task force recommending financial sector reforms.
His experience includes five years of credit research management and a decade as a senior financial sector professional before taking over as Chief Executive Officer of Fitch Ratings Lanka Limited.
He has also served as head of corporate finance at JP Morgan/Jardine Fleming and carried out international equity placements and corporate restructuring assignments.
