Govt.’s role to expand, as private sector cant lead the country on its own

The Treasury Secretary said they plan to expand the role of the government because they think the private sector alone can't lead the country.

The Treasury Secretary said they plan to expand the role of the government because they think the private sector alone can't lead the country. But he says the state has got the help of the private sector to design a strategy that looks at promoting growth through development of productivity and small and medium businesses.

"Now we are promoting several private sector groups, who have also participated in the discussion to work out a strategy that will promote SME's; that will promote productivity; social security; that will address skills development and employment creation," said P B Jayasundera, Treasury Secretary speaking at the launch of an ILO study on globalization and how it can create opportunities for more people.

The ILO report said deficiencies in governments management of globalization has prevented its benefits reaching the masses.
