July 18, 2007 (LBO) – The financial journal Euromoney has named Commercial Bank as Sri Lanka's best bank in its 2007 survey, the bank said Wednesday. The magazine’s Asian regional awards recognise the best banks in 16 countries.

It has listed Commercial Bank alongside other country winners such as ICICI Bank (India), China Merchant Bank (China), ANZ (Australia), HSBC (Hong Kong) and Citi (Singapore).

Bankers and analysts on the island say Commercial Bank is strong across the board, from retail and corporate finance to stock underwriting and foreign exchange and treasury services, a statement from the bank quoted Euromoney as saying.

Euromoney’s Global Awards for Excellence, now in their 15th consecutive year, use quantitative data and informed and important subjective judgements, to evaluate lenders.

The awards measure banking quality across 12 global categories and across 110 countries. Commercial Bank says this is first time in many years the magazine has announced an award for the island.
