FBI helping probe Maldives blast: United Sates

Oct 01, 2007 (LBO) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is helping Maldives probe a blast in the capital that injured 12 tourists Saturday, the US embassy in Colombo said Monday. The embassy said it was "shocked and saddened" to learn of the incident.

"We condemn without reservation this senseless act of violence," the embassy said.

"The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation’s regional representative is currently assisting the Maldivian authorities in their investigation."

Maldivian home minister Abdullah Kamaldeen had told parliament that two foreigners and several teenagers had been arrested in connection with the bombing, media reports said.

The minister had told parliament that the SIM card of a mobile phones used to detonate the bomb had been found and its previous calls have been traced. .
