The EU sets aside € 490,000 ( around Rs 60 million) to support human rights and conflict resolution initiatives in Sri Lanka by Non Governmental Organisations (NGO). Sri Lankan NGOs can apply for funding for micro projects that foster human rights and promote equity, tolerance and peace, said the European Commission office in Sri Lanka on Thursday.

The funding is provided through the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights Programme(EIDHR), of the European Communities.

The EIDHR funding, from a minimum of €10,000 to €75,000 , will cover up to 90 percent of the cost of small projects lasting up to 36 months.
