The airline currently operates 13 services a week between its home base and Sri Lanka’s capital, now going up to 17 flights a week, the airline said in a statement on Wednesday.
These additional flights are perfectly timed to cater to the increased arrivals expected by the tourism authorities, Tissa Bibile Emirates Area Manager Sri Lanka and Maldives, said.
Starting October 29, Emirates flights operating on the Dubai-Male-Colombo route will be extended to Dubai, every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Completing the inbound circle, Emirates flight operating on the Colombo-Male-Dubai route, will originate from Dubai and operate as Dubai-Colombo-Male-Dubai.
Sri Lanka is hoping to attract 600,000 tourists to the island this year, but an escalating local conflict between the Sri Lankan government and Tamil rebels could trim numbers.
