An ADB sponsored project will roll out a series of distance education tele-centers countrywide, so students left out of the state system can get those degrees online.rnrn

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) today, approved a US$ 45 mn loan for a lquote Distance Education Modernization Project, to increase access to distance and on-line learning.rn

rnThe project will roll out 100-multimedia centers countrywide and link 20,000 students at the Open Universitys 26 centers, as well as other public and private institutes.rn

rnThe tele-centers are being rolled out countrywide with affiliated facilities in existing schools, over a five-year period extending till 2009.rn

rnMany secondary school graduates are left out of the state university system due to lack of capacity, with most offering only narrow learning opportunities.rn

rnThis lack of access has meant that only 2 percent of those qualified to enter national universities, actually get enrolled into the hallowed halls of learning.rn
