Ceylon Chamber of Commerce joins global movement to end gender-based violence

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce pledges to join the fight to end gender-based violence by joining the global campaign “Orange the World: 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence’.

In Sri Lanka, the first dedicated national survey on violence against women and girls, the Women’s Wellbeing Survey, revealed that two in five women were subjected to physical, sexual, emotional or economic violence, with the majority being repeat victims. Globally, one in three women are estimated to suffer some form of violence in her lifetime.

Ensuring an environment of equal opportunity is vital to enabling societal and economic progression, and requires collective effort from the public as well as the state and private sectors, stated CEO of the Ceylon Chamber, Mr. Manjula de Silva.

Highlighting its commitment to upholding Women’s Rights as an integral aspect of Human Rights, The Ceylon Chamber will raise a banner against gender based violence from November 25th to December 10th  in solidarity with the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
