Jul 25, 2019 (LBO) - The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) will host a regional forum in Colombo next week on the role of finance professionals in combating bribery and corruption.
The forum which will be held on 30th July 2019 at the Kingsbury Hotel will attract accountants from across the South Asian region. The event is jointly conducted by CA Sri Lanka and the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), an apex body of the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) which works in the public interest, towards ensuring broad economic development in the region by promoting accounting standards and practices.
State Minister of Finance Mr. Eran Wickramaratne will be the chief guest at the event. Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) Sarath Jayamanne will deliver the keynote on ‘Private sector and civil society involvement in combating bribery and corruption’ while Partner of KPMG India Suveer Khanna, will speak on ‘Recent developments in combating bribery and corruption.’
SAFA President Dr. P.V.S. Jagan Mohan Rao and Vice President Zia Ul Mustafa and the Presidents of SAFA member bodies together with representatives of each member body will be among the guests at the event.
At the forum, SAFA Member countries including Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh as well as Nepal will share their perspectives on the steps they have taken to combat corruption and bribery in their respective countries focusing on ethics, value systems, enforceability, asset declarations, building trust and integrity as key pillars in combating bribery and corruption.
Integrity, trust, transparency and accountability are cornerstones of the accountancy profession. As such, financial professionals can play an increasingly crucial role in the process of confronting corruption and eliminating bribery.
The forum is open to CA Sri Lanka member and others from the finance profession.
