Sri Lanka recognises good tax payers by handing out gold and silver reward cards. Minister of Finance, Sarath Amunugama and Secretary to the Treasury, P B Jayasundara handed out over 30 gold and silver cards to good tax payers that regularly contribute over half a million rupees to State coffers, on Wednesday.
Others that fall within the reward card definition of ‘good tax payer’ can expect a surprise delivery over the post.
“We will post the balance cards, for the people that applied and were selected.
They should get their cards within the week,” said Commissioner General of Inland Revenue, P Karunasekera.
The Inland Revenue issued gold cards to individuals that pay over Rs 1 mn in taxes and silver cards to people that pay over half a million rupees in taxes.
The threshold is over Rs 2 million for non resident tax payers.
But to be qualify for a reward card, tax payments and tax reports must consistently have arrived at the Inland Revenue on time.
