ANC Launches their Undergraduate Alumni Association at their ‘U.S. Night’
03rd February, COLOMBO, SRI LANKA- American National College launched their first U.S. Alumni Association at Water’s Edge recently at their ‘US Night’. Speakers at the event included Dr. Punarjeeva Karunanayake, CEO of ANC Education as well as Mr. P.K William, Director of William Investments Pvt. Ltd. and president of the American Alumni Association of Sri Lanka.
The ANC U.S. alumni association formed 3 local chapters representing Northwood University, Missouri State University as well as John F. Kennedy University & Patten University which are U.S. transfer programs.
Dr. Karunanayake highlighting the significance of this alumni to him said, “When ANC was started fourteen years ago, the vision was to make the U.S. education system accessible to Sri Lankans and now we have a network of over 5000 graduates. By fostering and strengthening our ties with the ANC Alumni not just in Sri Lanka but abroad as well, our present students as well as alumni can reap the benefits of collective knowledge, skills and competencies that exist within the network to advance in their academic as well as professional life.”
Nadeem Rajabdeen who was ANC’s first student is now a director of Cantaloupe & Co. said this about being an ANC alumni, “It not only connects me to my batch mates but to the entire ANC network which has proved really useful to me in my day to day life. It’s also really nice to have that nostalgic connection to my U.S. college which ANC facilitated by allowing me to get the full ‘college experience’.”
With plans of making ‘U.S. Night’ an annual event , ANC Education appointed Ransirini De Silva, Anaz Ashra, Anagi Gunasekara, Ayantha Phillip Martyl as the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Missouri University of Science and Technology Alumni Association, respectively. Ghazali Ifthikar was selected as the president of the Northwood Alumni Association with Radesh Radella, Yasaara Kaluaratchchi, Harshen Joseph were appointed as the Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, respectively. Dewruk Rajapakse, Ashan Ratnawardane and Orlando Michael were announced as the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Alumni Association of the U.S. Transfer Program to John F. Kennedy, Patten University and Northwood University. The night witnessed a lot of camaraderie and to top it off, ANC presented a loyalty card to past and current students that was meant as a token of appreciation for their active involvement with ANC Education and for being ANC’s valued ambassadors. The card entitles ANC alumni to remarkable discounts at numerous retailers around the island ranging from fashion outlets to hotels, to salons, to restaurants and bars.
