Though its costly,I think CGR should import Locomotives from General Motors(Now General Electric)USA which has a very success history in islands railway loco Fleet Eg (M2 & M4).Power sets could be imported from China.S12 Power sets seems good choice.
very few countries make the fossil fuel engines now. most nations are using the electric high speed trains of high quality. GE as many say is one company that still makes high quality engines, but they are expensive and to be very practical may not suit our infrastructure.
there shud be a plan to properly construct the lines so that trains can travel at speeds higher than the nominal 40kmph now they do along kelanivalley line or the 60kmph they do on the anuradhapura line. with proper lines the rail service will be very good for mass transportation. then even the engines will have less problems. travel in a train and feel how much they tilt and swerve, all becoz of the unevenly laid lines.
