The US wants World Trade Organisation (WTO) countries to come up with an "endgame document" this year, to keep international trade talks on track. Ministers from 148 WTO member countries will meet in Hong Kong in December this year and the US wants better results this time than Cancun in 2003 – through what it calls an "endgame document.

"Looking first to the Sixth Ministerial in Hong Kong at the end of this year, our goal should be to ensure that Ministers are able to affirm clear guidance in the form of an 'endgame document,'" said a statement from the, US Deputy Trade Representative, Peter F. Allgeier, at the WTO Trade Negotiations Committee.

The US proposes that the endgame document – that will cover all ongoing topics of negotiations – be submitted at the Hong Kong Ministerial with a view to finalising talks in 2006.
