Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) unions getting ready for trade union action again next week. CEB trade unions say the government is trying to approve another Cabinet paper to restructure the CEB without trade union agreement.
"They are tying to present a Cabinet paper next week to restructure the CEB by turning it into companies again," said Ananda Nimalaratne, convenor, CEB Joint Trade Union Front.
CEB trade unions were threatening an island wide blackout in May for the same reason but the government changed its tactics and went into discussion mode.
Now after over one month of talks CEB reforms are back to square one and the Sri Lanka is facing trade union action again next week.
"The proposal will most likely go to Cabinet next week. If that happens we have no choice but to take trade unions action," said Nimalaratne.
A majority of CEB trade unions say they do not want the CEB broken up and registered as companies under the Companies Act.
