The CEB has re-issued its gazette announcement to increase electricity charges and has postponed the price increase. The increase in electricity fixed charges, that was due in August, will hit consumers from October 1, under a new gazette notice already published.
“We have issued another gazette this month. It is only to increase the fixed rate. We will do it from October 1,” said Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) chairman, Ananda Gunasekera.
Under the CEB’s revised rates the fixed charge on bulk consumption of electricity, will go to Rs 3,000 from Rs 800.

Domestic fixed charges will range between Rs 60 to Rs 240, from the current Rs 30, depending on usage units.
The fixed charge is an add-on to the unit tariff that is calculated based on the units of electricity consumed.
The CEB gazetted the price increase in June, but had to withdraw the notice during the one month public objection period when a consumer petitioned that the notice could be interpreted to mean that
