Sarath Kumara De Silva, chairman of the Cey-Nor Foundation, a state-owned boat building outfit, said a marina is planned in the Beruwela fisheries harbour, south of Colombo.
"We are planning to build a marina in the northern basin of the fisheries harbour," he told LBO.
"We plan to link it to the international marina route."
Marina consultants who took part in the island's third international boat show over the weekend had promised to find investors to build the marina, he said.
The proposed marina will have all the required facilities like parking, a boat yard, immigration, an aquarium and a hotel, he said.
An investor from Hong Kong has been found for the aquarium while an investor from the Netherlands is willing to invest 13 million euros for the boat yard, De Silva said.
Former Cey-Nor chairman Rohan Jayasinghe, himself a boat owner, said the island was not making enough use of its water ways.
