Alan Waller, president of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport International, said global supply chains and trading patterns provide the island a bigger opportunity for transhipment business.

The end of the island's 30-year ethnic conflict and transport infrastructure construction boom gives it the ability to play a role similar to Dubai or Singapore, Waller told LBO in an interview.


"Your conflict is now over and you've got economic and political stability," said Waller, who was in Colombo to speak at the annual conference of the CILT's Sri Lanka branch.


"You've got the willingness of the government to support this. And you've got the engagement of major stakeholders - the government can't do it on its own.
