Port Management Container Services, a fully owned subsidiary of Aitken Spence, is providing the African ports expertise in yard, terminal and ship planning.
Over the past three years the group's maritime business unit has more than doubled its profitability despite the downturn in shipping and port operations owing to global recession, the report said.
In March this year Aitken Spence formed what it called a "strategic partnership" with Colombo International Nautical & Engineering College, a large maritime education and training institute in Sri Lanka.
The deal would be to complement Aitken Spence's operations in South Africa where it provides skilled people, training and port management expertise.
"The feasibility of launching a maritime campus overseas is currently being evaluated," the annual report said. <
