The investment of just over 800 million rupees in three years will go towards the joint venture, employee training, upgrading of information systems and introducing an enhanced range of services for businesses in Sri Lanka, a DHL statement said.

"We are very optimistic about Sri Lanka’s growth potential," Amadou Diallo, DHL Global Forwarding chief executive for South Asia Pacific said.

"Being strategically located along the major air and sea routes between Europe and the Far East, Sri Lanka is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the increasing trade flows between South Asia and Europe."

The joint venture with Capitol AEI, DHL's longstanding partner to form DHL Global Forwarding Lanka, will provide integrated forwarding and supply chain services.

The new entity operates a combined warehouse space of over 380,000 square foot, a fleet of about 40 vehicles and employs close to 250 people.
