June 03, 2007 (LBO) -- A fire broke out aboard an Indian oil tanker undergoing repairs at the main port of Colombo Sunday, injuring 13 people, officials said.



The firm is currently building two large size ocean going Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels with a 80 tonne Bollard Pull capacity for Greatship (India) Limited.

The engine room of the Indian vessele, Javanath Singh, caught fire around 2.

30 pm local time (0900 GMT) while it was being repaired at the country's main shipbuilding company, Colombo Dockyard Limited, a spokesman for the Fort firebrigade said.

"Thirteen people were hospitalised, mostly due to fire-related injuries," an official from Colombo Dockyard said adding that there were no other serious damages.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, fire brigade officials said adding that the matter is being investigated.

Colombo Dockyard, a quoted company on the Colombo Stock Exchange, is 51 percent owned by Japan's Onomichi Dockyard Company.

The company builds new vessels as well as handle repairs for local and overseas customers.
