April 30, (LBO) – Emirates Airlines said Monday flights to Colombo will remain suspended after a security review, following Tamil Tiger rebel air raids. The Katunayake airbase itself was bombed on March 26 in the rebels’ first air strike. The airline, which manages and partly owns SriLankan, the island’s national carrier, suspended flights along with Cathay Pacific after early Sunday’s rebel air strike, the third in a month.

Following a review of the situation in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, Emirates' flights to the city remain suspended until further notice,” an Emirates spokesperson said.

Scheduled flights on April 30 and May 2 from Dubai to Colombo and onwards to Singapore and Jakarta - EK348/349 - will overfly Colombo, outbound and inbound.

Emirates flights EK558 and 559 from April 30 to May 3 from Dubai to Male, via Colombo, have been re-routed to operate Dubai - Male - Dubai only.

Emirates is offering alternative airlines or to cancel bookings without charges and passengers have been asked to contact their travel agent or Emirates.
