The Sri Lanka Ports Authority Engineers Union has appealed to President Mahinda Rajapakse to fast track the process of commissioning a new computer system at the Jaya Container Terminals (JCT).
The Ports Authority had started the process of modernising the terminal management system at JCT in 2003.
According to the original implementation schedule, the new computer system was to have been commissioned by 2004.
The government had then re-called the tender and a technical evaluation committee report with the approval of the Cabinet Appointed Tender Board (CATB) was then referred to the National Procurement Agency.
Port Engineers say the tender offers are due to expire on April 17th.
The terminal now uses a computer system installed in 1985.
