Sri Lanka has been given extra landing rights to Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates, under the recently concluded bilateral talks.
Under the new terms, the UAE has allowed 45 passenger frequencies per week to all designated carriers of both countries.
Besides SriLankan Airlines, UAE’s carriers include Emirates Airlines (SriLankan’s technical and equity partner), Etihad Airlines, Air Arabia and Gulf Airlines, the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry said Friday.
The revised deal with Lebanon, gives SriLankan Airlines and the designated Lebanese airline third, fourth and fifth freedom traffic rights.
Fifth freedom right is the rights of an airline in one country to pick up passengers from a second country and fly on to a third country where they deplane.
Third and fourth freedoms rights allow an airline to load and unload passengers, mail and cargo in another country.
The Lebanese deal allows designated carriers’ unlimited frequency of any type of aircraft for third and fourth freedo
