The Bureau has credit information about 600,000 credit records relating to 400,000 customers.
Sri Lanka's Credit Information Bureau (CRIB) collects information from customers of 95 institutions. The information is available to participating institutions.
CRIB general manager Gamini Karunaratne said individuals who want to check their credit status would be able to open an account online and get the credit report after paying a fee of 250 rupees.
The account would be password protected and only the individual concerned will be able to access the report.
He said Sri Lanka was the first country in South Asia to offer such a facility.

He said the measure will help people understand their own credit status and improve transparency of the process.
Karunaratne said a two month public education program and the system will be available from January.
