Dec 18, 2007 (LBO) – Sri Lanka is issuing its first currency note under the signature of Governor Nivard Cabraal with added security features to battle a rising threat of counterfeiting, the Central Bank said. The note is dated 2006.07.03.

The one thousand rupee note will have upgraded security features to battle an "increasing threat" of counterfeiting high denomination notes, the monetary authority said.

It will have a four millimeter wide ˜starchrome' device with a window effect on the front of the note, which changes from red to green when the note is tilted up and down with clear text showing the value of the note (Rs.1,000), the country (Sri Lanka) and the motif (butterfly).

A water mark showing a cornerstone is included as diagonal bars at four corners of the note.

"Given these added security features, the general public will now be able to distinguish between a genuine and counterfeit note easily," the Central Bank said.

The 1,000 rupee note series will have the serial prefixes and numbers G/186 065001 onwards. .
